Section 01

Delivery & shipping in South Africa

Horze South Africa ships from its own warehouse in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, by door-to-door courier to every province. Full detail lives on our shipping policy page.

How long does delivery take in South Africa?

Horze South Africa delivers in 1–2 business days to most metropolitan areas — including Johannesburg, Pretoria and the wider Gauteng area, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), East London, Bloemfontein, Polokwane and Nelspruit (Mbombela). Deliveries to outlying, rural and farm addresses typically take 2–4 business days, because the courier needs an extra leg to reach smaller towns and smallholdings.

The clock starts when your order is dispatched, not when it is placed. Orders received on a business day are picked and handed to the courier within 12 hours, so a weekday order placed in the morning is usually on a vehicle the same day.

How much does shipping cost, and when is it free?

Shipping is free on every Horze South Africa order over R800 — the discount is applied automatically at checkout, with no code needed. Below that threshold we charge a single flat rate anywhere in South Africa:

OptionCostBest for
Door-to-door courierR99 flat rateHomes, yards and businesses with a physical street address
PostNet-to-PostNet collectionR114 flat rateFarms, plots and outlying areas couriers struggle to find
Any order over R800FreeApplied automatically at checkout

The flat rate is the same whether you are in Sandton or the Karoo. During Black Friday promotions the free-shipping threshold moves to R1 000.

When will my order be dispatched?

All orders placed on a business day are dispatched within 12 hours. Orders placed over a weekend or on a South African public holiday are dispatched on the first following business day. You will receive a tracking number by email from our warehouse as soon as the parcel is collected by the courier.

Do you deliver to farms, smallholdings and outlying areas?

Yes. Horze South Africa delivers to farms, plots and rural addresses anywhere in the country, and it is a large part of what we do — most of our customers keep horses outside the suburbs. Allow 2–4 business days for outlying areas.

If couriers have struggled to find your yard before, choose the PostNet-to-PostNet option at checkout and enter the name and address of the PostNet branch nearest to you. Your parcel goes to that branch and waits for you, which removes the “driver couldn’t find the gate” problem entirely.

Can you deliver to a PO Box or post-box address?

No. Horze South Africa cannot deliver to PO Box or post-box addresses because we use a door-to-door courier service that requires a physical street address — your home, your yard, your workplace or a PostNet branch. If you only have a box number, select PostNet-to-PostNet collection at checkout instead.

How do I track my Horze order?

Once your parcel leaves our warehouse we email you a tracking number, which you can follow using the tracking link on our shipping policy page. Your order status is also visible under My Account. If your tracking has not moved for more than a business day, email orders@horze.co.za or WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 and we will chase the courier for you.

Do you ship internationally, or to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini or Zimbabwe?

No. Horze South Africa ships within South Africa only and cannot currently deliver to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Mozambique or any other country. Riders outside South Africa can shop the wider Horze range at horze.eu or horze.com, which serve Europe, the UK and other markets.

Will I pay customs or import duties on my order?

No. Every product sold on horze.co.za is already in South Africa, held in our Gauteng warehouse, and priced in rand with VAT included. There are no customs charges, no import duties, no brokerage fees and no exchange-rate mark-ups added after checkout — the price you see is the price you pay. This is the main reason riders order from us rather than from an overseas equestrian site.

Can I get an order before a show this weekend?

Usually, yes — if you order early in the week. A weekday order to a metro address is typically with you in 1–2 business days, so an order placed Monday or Tuesday generally arrives well before a weekend show. If it is tight, WhatsApp us on +27 60 933 9624 before you check out and we will confirm the realistic arrival date for your specific address, and flag your order to the warehouse as show-critical.

Please note that couriers deliver on business days, so a Friday-afternoon order will not arrive on the Saturday.

Is delivery guaranteed to arrive on a specific date?

Our delivery times are reliable targets, not guarantees. Once a parcel is with the courier, delivery is in their hands, and weather, load shedding, remote locations or peak-season volumes can occasionally add a day. Horze South Africa will always do everything we can to get your parcel moving on time and will follow up with the courier on your behalf, but we cannot contractually guarantee an exact delivery hour or date.

Does somebody need to be there to receive the parcel?

Yes — our courier service is door-to-door and needs someone to accept and sign for the parcel. Use whichever physical address suits you best: many customers ship to their workplace, their yard manager or the livery office rather than an empty house. Add a contact number and any gate or complex instructions in the order notes so the driver can reach you.

My parcel is late, damaged or has an item missing. What now?

Contact us straight away — email info@horze.co.za or WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 with your order number and, for damage, a photo of the parcel and the item. Horze South Africa issues refunds or replacements for damaged, faulty or incomplete deliveries, and if the error was ours we cover the return or collection cost and send the correct item at no charge. Refund processing takes 7–10 days once the claim is agreed.

Section 02

Ordering & payment

You can order on horze.co.za 24 hours a day, in rand, with a secure card checkout — or place your order with a human over WhatsApp if you would rather talk it through.

What payment methods does Horze South Africa accept?

Horze South Africa accepts Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards through a secure, encrypted checkout, as well as Horze gift cards and any Horze Rewards points you have earned. All prices are in South African rand and include VAT. We do not see or store your full card details — payment is handled by our payment provider.

Do I need an account to place an order?

You can shop without one, but we recommend creating a free account. An account stores your delivery address, keeps your order history and tracking in one place, and — most usefully — is what lets you earn and redeem Horze Rewards points. Points are only credited to orders placed while signed in.

Can I order over WhatsApp instead of on the website?

Yes. Message us on +27 60 933 9624 and our team will help you find the right products, confirm sizing and stock, and get your order placed. Many customers use WhatsApp for exactly this — sending a photo of their horse for rug sizing, or asking which helmet fits a narrow head, before committing to an order. You can also use the live chat at the bottom of any page on horze.co.za.

Are the prices on the website in rand, and do they include VAT?

Every price on horze.co.za is in South African rand (ZAR), VAT included. Nothing is converted from euros or dollars, and no duties or fees are added later. If you need a VAT invoice for a business, riding school or livery yard, email orders@horze.co.za with your order number and company details.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Contact us as fast as you can. Because Horze South Africa dispatches orders within 12 hours on business days, there is a short window to change an address, swap a size or cancel — email orders@horze.co.za or WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 with your order number immediately. If the parcel has already gone to the courier, we will handle it as a standard 30-day return or exchange instead.

Is my payment and personal information safe?

Yes. Checkout on horze.co.za runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and card payments are processed by our payment provider, so Horze South Africa never stores your full card number. Your personal details are used to fulfil your order and manage your account as set out in our privacy policy.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes — Horze South Africa sells gift cards that can be spent on anything in the store. They are the safest present for a rider, because sizing in boots, breeches and helmets is personal, and it lets them choose the colour they actually want.

Do you supply riding schools, livery yards or teams?

Yes. We regularly supply riding schools, livery yards, pony clubs and competition teams across South Africa with helmets, boots, rugs and yard equipment. For a bulk or team order, email info@horze.co.za or WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 with what you need and roughly how many, and we will come back to you on stock, timing and pricing.

Section 03

Returns, exchanges & refunds

Buying boots and breeches online means sizing sometimes misses. Our returns and exchange policy gives you 30 days, and the first replacement on an order ships free.

What is the Horze South Africa return policy?

You may return or exchange an item within 30 days of purchase, provided it is unused, with the original tags attached and the packaging intact. Used items cannot be returned or exchanged — so try boots and helmets on indoors, on a clean floor, before you ride in them.

To start a return, email info@horze.co.za with your order number and the reason. Once we approve it, send the parcel back and give us the tracking number.

How do I exchange an item for a different size?

Email info@horze.co.za within 30 days with your order number and the size you need. Once approved, return the unused item — tags on, packaging intact — to:

Horze South Africa
50 Annesu de Vos Street, Stephanopark
Vanderbijlpark, 1911, Gauteng

You can use PostNet-to-PostNet (our branch is Vaal Mall), The Courier Guy, Fastway Couriers or Aramex. The first replacement on an order ships back to you free of charge.

Who pays for return shipping?

It depends on why the item is coming back:

  • Our mistake — if our warehouse sent the wrong item, Horze South Africa covers the collection cost and ships the correct item to you at no charge.
  • Faulty or damaged goods — we cover the return shipping.
  • Size or change-of-mind exchange — you cover the cost of sending the item back to us, and we ship the first replacement on that order free.

Can I return sale items?

Yes. Sale items can be returned or size-exchanged at Horze South Africa, as long as they are unused and in their original packaging with tags attached. Buying in our Spring Sale or Black Friday event does not cost you the safety net.

Which items cannot be returned?

Two categories are excluded:

  • Personalised items with embroidery — once a rug, jacket or saddle pad has been embroidered with a name or logo it is non-returnable and non-exchangeable, because we cannot resell it.
  • Used items — anything that has been worn, ridden in, washed or used on a horse, or that comes back without its tags and packaging.

Everything else, including sale stock, falls under the standard 30-day policy.

An item is faulty. What do I do?

Report faulty items to info@horze.co.za within 30 to 45 days, with your order number, a description of the fault and photos where possible. Our management team reviews every fault claim and responds within 7 business days with a repair, replacement or refund. Horze South Africa covers the return shipping on genuine faults.

How long do refunds take?

Allow 7–10 days for a refund to be processed and issued once we have received and assessed your return. Refunds are issued for damaged, faulty or incomplete deliveries; minor variations in product detail — a slightly different shade of navy on your screen, for example — do not qualify for a refund, but they are covered by the 30-day return and exchange option.

What if my return goes missing in transit?

Always send returns with a tracked service and keep the tracking code. Compensation for a lost return or exchange can only be assessed if you can provide the postal or courier tracking code, since that is what lets us prove the parcel was sent and trace where it stopped. Send the tracking number to info@horze.co.za as soon as you have posted the parcel.

Section 04

Sizing & fit

Every product page on horze.co.za carries a size chart — and if you would rather have a person check your measurements before you buy, WhatsApp them to us on +27 60 933 9624.

How do I measure for a riding helmet?

Measure the circumference of your head in centimetres, using a soft tape run around the widest part — roughly one to two centimetres above your eyebrows and around the fullest point at the back of your skull. Match that number to the size chart on the helmet’s product page.

A correctly fitted riding helmet sits level on your head, not tipped back, feels snug all the way round with no pressure points, and does not rock or slide when you shake your head with the harness undone. Never buy a helmet a size up “to grow into” — a loose helmet cannot protect properly.

How do I measure for tall riding boots?

Tall boots need three measurements, taken while wearing your usual riding socks and breeches:

  • Foot size — your normal shoe size.
  • Calf circumference — around the widest part of your calf, standing up.
  • Height — from the floor to the crease at the back of your knee, with your leg straight.

Compare all three to the chart on the boot’s product page. New tall boots should feel slightly tall at first, because leather boots drop a little as the ankle softens with wear. If you are between two calf widths, message us — the fit differs between our Rover, Verona and Duvall ranges.

How do I choose the right size breeches or riding tights?

Use the size chart on the specific product page rather than assuming your usual clothing size, because fit differs between brands — Horze, B//Vertigo and La Regalia are each cut slightly differently. Measure your waist and hips, and your inside leg for full-length styles.

As a rule of thumb: riding tights and pull-on styles are designed to fit close, so take your true measurement rather than sizing up; traditional breeches with a zip and belt loops sit closer to standard clothing sizing. If you are between sizes and want the grip to work properly, the smaller size is usually correct in a silicone full-grip or full-seat tight.

How do I measure my horse for a rug?

Stand your horse square and measure with a soft tape from the centre of the chest, along the side of the body, to the back edge of the hindquarters (roughly the point where you would want the rug to end, near the top of the tail). Keep the tape level and follow the shape of the horse.

That measurement is your rug size — shown in centimetres on our product pages, with the equivalent feet-and-inches size given where the manufacturer supplies it. A rug that is too small rubs at the shoulder and chest; one that is too big slips back and twists. If your horse is between sizes, or is broad, high-withered or a stocky cob type, WhatsApp us the measurement and we will tell you which of our rugs, bug rugs or fly sheets will actually fit.

How do I know what size bit my horse needs?

Bit size is the width of your horse’s mouth, measured from the corner of one lip to the other, and it is listed in both inches and millimetres on our bit product pages. The most common size for an average full-size horse is 5″ (about 125 mm), with 4.5″ typical for ponies and 5.5″–6″ for larger warmbloods and draught types.

A correctly sized bit shows a few millimetres of clearance on each side of the mouth — no more. If you are unsure, the simplest method is to measure the bit your horse currently goes well in, from the inside edge of one ring to the other.

What size girth or saddle pad do I need?

For a girth, the easiest and most reliable method is to measure your current girth from buckle end to buckle end while it is done up on the horse at your normal hole. Dressage (short) girths and long girths are sized differently, so check which style the product page lists.

For a saddle pad, match the pad shape to your saddle — all-purpose, jump or dressage cut — rather than to your horse. The pad should sit clear of the spine along its full length and extend a little beyond the saddle flap on all sides.

How should I size gear for a child or young rider?

Horze South Africa has a dedicated young rider range in show shirts, grip tights, jodhpur boots and tall boots, sized by age and height. Two rules matter:

  • Never oversize a helmet. Buy the size that fits their head today, and replace it as they grow.
  • A little room in boots and jodhpurs is fine — thicker socks buy you a season — but boots that slide up and down will rub and make the stirrup unsafe.

If you are buying a first set of kit, message us the child’s measurements and we will put a list together.

Can I try items on before buying?

Yes — Horze South Africa has a showroom in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, open by appointment, where you can fit helmets, tall boots, jodhpur boots and breeches in person. This is worth the drive for a first pair of tall boots or a helmet, where fit matters most. Request a booking through the showroom page while logged in, so we have your contact details to confirm.

Section 05

Products, brands & safety

What we stock, who makes it, and the questions riders ask most about helmet safety and seasonal kit for South African conditions.

What does Horze South Africa sell?

Horze South Africa sells a full equestrian range for the rider and the horse:

  • Rider clothing — breeches, jodhpurs, full- and knee-grip riding tights, show shirts, base layers, show jackets, gloves, socks, belts and caps.
  • Safety and footwear — certified riding helmets including MIPS models, tall boots, jodhpur boots, half chaps, whips, crops, spurs and stirrups.
  • Tack — bridles, halters and lead ropes, bits, reins, girths and saddle pads.
  • Horse wear — turnout, stable and fly rugs, bug rugs, fly sheets, fly masks, tendon and fetlock boots, and bandages.
  • Yard and horse care — grooming tools, stable equipment, treats, supplements, insect control and natural equine health products.
  • Young riders — a dedicated kids’ range across clothing and footwear.

Which brands does Horze South Africa stock?

Our own brands are Horze and B//Vertigo, developed in-house for everyday riding and competition. Alongside them we stock La Regalia Equestrian (Argentinian polo heritage), KEP Riding Helmets, Rambo and Amigo turnout and fly protection, Zandona protective boots, Garmin, Onyx Equestrian, DEE Equestrian, Autovision, Breyer model horses, BossMare equestrian living, and South African horse-care lines including Herbal Horse, SMART Equine, AHFS African Horse Fly Spray and Eco Vet natural supplements. See them all on our brands page.

Are Horze riding helmets safety certified, and what is MIPS?

Yes — the riding helmets we sell are impact-tested and carry safety certification, and the exact standard for each model is listed on its product page. Several of our helmets, including the Zenith MIPS and B//Vertigo Majoris MIPS, are MIPS-equipped.

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System. It is a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows the shell to move a few millimetres relative to your head during an angled impact, which is designed to reduce the rotational forces transferred to the brain. Most real riding falls are angled rather than straight-down, which is why the technology matters.

When should I replace my riding helmet?

Replace a riding helmet immediately after any fall or impact, even if it looks undamaged — the protective liner is designed to crush once, and the damage is usually invisible from the outside. Beyond that, manufacturers generally recommend replacing a helmet roughly every five years of normal use, since sweat, sunlight and heat degrade the materials over time. Never buy or ride in a second-hand helmet whose history you do not know.

What do you stock for the South African fly season?

Summer here is hard on horses, so we carry a full bug and fly protection range: breathable fly masks for eyes and ears (from around R298), mesh fly sheets and bug rugs for full-body, UV and insect cover, including Amigo bug rugs and Horze fly sheets, plus insect control and fly sprays such as AHFS African Horse Fly Spray for the yard. Shop the range under fly masks and insect control.

Is everything shown on the website in stock?

Stock levels on horze.co.za reflect what is physically in our Vanderbijlpark warehouse, and sold-out sizes and colours are marked as unavailable. Sale and clearance lines run while stock lasts and popular sizes go quickly. If a size you need is out of stock, WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 — we can tell you whether it is being restocked and roughly when, or suggest the closest alternative.

Do you run sales, and can I still earn rewards on sale items?

Yes. Horze South Africa runs seasonal promotions — including a Spring Sale with discounts up to 60% off selected lines, and a Black Friday event where the free-shipping threshold moves to R1 000. You still earn Horze Rewards points on sale purchases, although points cannot be redeemed against sale items. Browse current offers on the sale page.

Can you help me choose the right product before I buy?

That is genuinely our favourite part of the job. Send us your question on WhatsApp (+27 60 933 9624), by email (info@horze.co.za) or through the live chat, and we will help you pick between a full-seat and knee-grip tight, work out whether a bug rug or a fly sheet suits your paddock, or choose a first competition helmet. We would much rather spend ten minutes getting it right than process a return.

Section 06

Horze Rewards & your account

Horze Rewards is our free loyalty programme: every order earns points, and points come off your next order. Full terms are on the rewards policy page.

How does Horze Rewards work?

Horze Rewards is free to join and works on a simple rand-for-points basis:

  • Earn 1 point for every R100 you spend online — points are credited to your account automatically.
  • Every point is worth R5 off at checkout, so 100 points = R500 discount, redeemable in full or in part.
  • Get 10 points for leaving us a Google review.
  • You still earn points on sale purchases, though points cannot be redeemed against sale items.

Sign up or sign in at My Account, place an order, and your points start accumulating.

Where do I see my points balance?

Sign in and open My Account — your Horze Rewards balance sits alongside your order history and tracking. Points are only credited on orders placed while you are signed in, so log in before you check out. If points are missing from an order, email info@horze.co.za with the order number and we will add them.

Can I use rewards points and a sale price together?

You keep earning points on sale purchases, but points cannot be redeemed against items that are already discounted. In practice, that means the best use of a points balance is on full-price kit — a new helmet or pair of tall boots — while your sale buys quietly build the balance up.

I’ve forgotten my password or can’t log in.

Use the lost password link and we will email you a reset link. If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder, then WhatsApp +27 60 933 9624 or email info@horze.co.za and we will sort out access to your account — including any rewards points attached to it.

Section 07

About us, showroom & contact

Who we are, where we are, and the fastest way to reach a person. More detail on our about us page.

Who is Horze South Africa?

Horze South Africa is the South African online store for the Horze equestrian brand, operated by Che Val Mode (Pty) Ltd from Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng. We sell riding clothing, helmets, boots, tack, rugs, fly protection, grooming and equine health products to riders across all nine provinces.

The Horze brand itself began in Finland in the early 1980s, in the town of Lahti, making horseshoes, harnesses and horse rugs, and grew into one of Europe’s largest equestrian retailers with a European head office in Fulda, Germany. Horze South Africa brings that range to riders here, stocked locally and priced in rand.

Is Horze South Africa the same as horze.com or horze.eu?

It is the same brand, run locally for South Africa. horze.co.za is the South African store: rand pricing, local stock, local couriers and South African customer support, operated by Che Val Mode (Pty) Ltd. horze.eu and horze.com serve Europe, the UK and other international markets and cannot ship to South Africa — so if you are riding in South Africa, order here to avoid customs, duties and a multi-week wait.

Where is Horze South Africa located, and do you have a physical shop?

Our warehouse and showroom are at 50 Annesu de Vos Street, Stephanopark, Vanderbijlpark, 1911, Gauteng. The showroom is open by appointment rather than as a walk-in shop, so that someone is always free to help you fit boots, helmets and breeches properly. Request a visit through the showroom booking page while logged in, and we will confirm a time.

How do I contact Horze South Africa?

Four ways, fastest first:

  • WhatsApp: +27 60 933 9624 — the quickest route to a human.
  • Live chat — at the bottom of every page on horze.co.za.
  • Email: info@horze.co.za for general questions, sizing, returns and exchanges; orders@horze.co.za for order and tracking queries.
  • Instagram: @horzeSA.

Always include your order number if your question is about an existing order — it gets you a straight answer first time.

Why should I buy from Horze South Africa rather than an overseas site?

Five practical reasons:

  • Speed — 1–2 business days to most South African metros, versus weeks for an international parcel.
  • No hidden costs — rand pricing with VAT included, and no customs duties or brokerage fees on arrival.
  • Local returns — a 30-day return and exchange window with a Gauteng return address, not an overseas warehouse.
  • Real support — WhatsApp a South African team who ride, and who know what a Highveld winter or a Lowveld fly season demands.
  • Rewards — earn points on every order, including sale purchases, worth R5 each against future orders.

Do you have an affiliate programme?

Yes. If you are a rider, coach, yard or equestrian content creator in South Africa, you can earn by referring customers to us — see the Horze South Africa affiliates page for how it works and how to apply.

Still stuck?

Ask us — we answer fast

If your question isn’t answered above, message us on WhatsApp and you will usually hear back from a real person within minutes during business hours. Sizing, stock, delivery before a show — we would rather help you get it right than have you guess.
